Travel to Nyon…
By car or by train, Geneva is on the main Paris - Milano and Zurich - Lyon axes. If you come by car, as soon as you enter Switzerland you will have to buy a motorway sticker and put it inside your windscreen. It costs 40 CHF (now in 2004!) but is valid for one year. Petrol is cheaper here than anywhere in Europe. Parking in Nyon is easy: the main parking is next to the Municipal hall.
Trains are reliable and punctual… and rather expensive. Nyon is a local stop between Geneva and Lausanne.
By airplane, aim for Geneva airport (GVA). Geneva is the home of the discount airline, Easyjet: if you book four months ahead, return flights from most European capitals are less than €100! … and maybe try and combine with Ryanair
There are also discount flights from the Far East and North America… Probably the best deals are from All Nippon Airlines via Paris or Amsterdam, but try and check www.ebookers.com as well.
If you arrive at Geneva airport, you can take a train from the station at the airport directly to Nyon, via Geneva main station (Cornavin) but without changing trains. It is very convenient – it takes less than 30 minutes – and the station in Nyon is in the centre of town.
Remember to find out if you need a visa for Switzerland. You can do so online at the following address:
On this site, you can also download the visa application form and find out the address of the Swiss Embassy or Consulate closest to you. Let us know (in good time!) and send us your full name, your date of birth, your address, passport number and date until which it is valid. We will send you an official letter of invitation, which you will need for the visa to be granted, and we will inform the Swiss Embassy or Consulate General which you tell us you are contacting.
